You've now come by
for three consecutive days
the only words left,
are the ones we pray.
And though you are
a factor in life,
your effects cut through us,
like a sharp knife.
You are inevitable
and this we know -
you quickly show up,
and we have to let go.
The tears you cause,
flow from the eyes,
I wonder if this pain,
will grow to be wise?
And though time will heal,
the pain inside -
today is a day,
I am sad you died...

  1. I can say that I have read A LOT of your poems but this one really dug into me. I found out today that my 22 year old cousin has stage 4 leukemia. Not doing too well. Regardless, this is a reality we need to face. At times its too hard to face when one is so young and hasn't had the opportunity to see all the colors in the world. All we can do is be grateful for the colors we've seen and count our blessing day after day.
